TicToc News on Twitter
December 18, 2017, Bloomberg is launching TicToc on Twitter. TicToc is a 24/7 global news network. Bloomberg LP owns magazines (including the former Business Week), a radio station, Bloomberg News and Bloomberg TV as well as many financial services.
The first sponsors are AT&T, CA Technologies, CME Group, Goldman Sachs, Infiniti, SAS and TD Ameritrade. There will be native advertising. 2700 journalists work for Bloomberg LP producing curated news... no user-generated content, no fake news !
One month after launching, TicToc averages 750 000 views (according to Bloomberg), 2 minutes per visit and boasts 119 000 followers. It could break even the first year.
TicToc is a new CNN for digital times. CNN was launched at the beginning of the satellite era (the 1980s), like MTV, Nickelodeon, HBO, ESPN... The old "new" television is now forty years old and suffers from cord-cutting. "The times, they are a changing / And admit that the waters / Around you have grown"... What about linearity?
TV programs, sport streaming on Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube TV... Are social media platforms becoming the new virtual Multi Video Program Distributors (MVPD)?
