No more TV tax in France? It's April Fools day!


France, like most European countries, levies a tax on TV: if you live in France and own at least one TV set you must pay an annual tax (called "redevance") of about 139 € (158$). This brings € 3.2 billion to the public radio and television sector.
A French minister, responsible for the budget and public accounts ("ministère de l'Action et des Comptes publics") suggested the President cancel this tax which he claims is an "unfair tax").
Most of the French TV organizations protest: such a proposition would jeopardize all the audiovisual sector ("l'ensemble du secteur audiovisuel français"). No less! Arguments? Every European country enforces this kind of tax.
