No more radio for Disney? The end of an era

Radio Disney and Radio Disney Country will cease operations early next year. Both programs aired on the iHeartRadio, Radio.com and TuneIn streaming applications. Radio Disney in Latin America is not included in the layoff, yet. Disney is now focusing on streaming platforms.

Radio Disney was launched in 1996. The program was broadcast on more than fifty stations and eventually became available on SiriusXM satellite radio. Radio Disney Country was launched in 2015 and was broadcast on KRDC-AM (Los Angeles, which will also sold in 2021). 

This is where young artists started to become famous, such as Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez or Megan Nicole. For Megan Nicole, the closing of Disney Radio is like "the end of an era". 

Disney is expected to lay off more than 28,000 employees by the beginning of 2021, mostly among people working in the Theme Parks or across Walt Disney Television.
